Privacy policy

TutorNook helps students and tutors find each other. This page explains in plain words what we collect, why, who can see it, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

TutorNook is run by [your full name or company name], [your postal address]. You can reach us at hello@tutornook.in.

What we collect

• Account: your name, email address and a scrambled (hashed) password. We never see or store your password in readable form.
• Tutor profile: what you write on it: subjects, place, experience, rate, bio and languages. This is public.
• Requirements and messages: what you tell us you want to learn, your place, and the messages you send in chats.
• Place: the town or area you pick, and its position on the map. We do not collect your exact location or address.
• Technical data: a login cookie, and your network address (IP) for a short time to limit abuse and keep the service safe.

Why we use it

• To run your account and show your profile.
• To match requirements with tutors, and to let you chat.
• To send emails about your account and chats (for example confirming your email, a new request, a new message, a password reset).
• To keep the service safe: handling reports, stopping spam and fake accounts.

We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

Who can see what

• Everyone can see tutor profiles.
• A tutor sees the student's name, the request, and chat messages, but not the student's email address.
• A student sees the tutor's profile and chat messages.
• We do not collect phone numbers. If you type one into a chat, the other person in that chat can see it, so share it only when you are comfortable.
• Chats are not read by us as a routine. If someone reports a conversation, we read the recent messages of that conversation to decide what to do, and keep a copy with the report.

Services we use

To run the site we use other companies that handle data for us: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database, in Singapore), Resend (sending email), a place-search service based on OpenStreetMap data (it receives the place names you type), and Cloudflare Turnstile (a check that you are a person, when switched on). They only get what they need to do their job.

How long we keep it

• Your account data stays until you delete your account.
• Reports and the message copy attached to them are kept for as long as needed to protect users, even if the person involved deletes their account.
• Short-term abuse-prevention records are removed after a few days.

Your choices

• Edit your profile any time in your dashboard.
• Delete your account yourself on the Account page. This removes your profile, requirements and chats.
• Ask us to show, correct or delete your data by writing to hello@tutornook.in.
• Withdraw your consent by deleting your account.

Cookies

We use one cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Children

TutorNook is meant for adults. Students under 18 should use the service together with a parent or guardian, who is responsible for the account.

Security

Passwords are hashed, connections use HTTPS, and chats can only be opened by the two people in them. No service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and do not share it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so on the site or by email.

Complaints
